Moving Room, Labels, and a Giveaway

I've been in the process of moving rooms over the last week and it's caused me to do a lot of rethinking in a lot of areas.  I'm moving to Second Grade and joining the Dual Language program at my school.  I have been teaching self-contained First Grade for four years now and I felt like it was time for a change.  I think this is the most excited I've been to start the new school year.  Don't get me wrong I'm more excited to spend the summer with my two little boys but I'm also looking forward to a fresh new start in Second :).

One of the first changes I looked into was labeling.  I'm always the teacher with the cute name labels and tubs but it takes me too many hours each August y'all :(.  Plus with twice the number of kids (44...two classes in the DL program), I just don't have the time.  So I decided to label my math tubs with numbers instead of names this year.  That way each group of kids can share tubs and I don't have to find spaces for 44 math tubs :).  Right now my room is mostly polka dot with stick kids and I'm in LOVE with Ashley Hughes' kid bundle and I picked it up during her Deal of the Day...check it out if you haven't yet.

So I came up with this set of number labels.  I made two different sets one is a color pattern and then one is a solid color every 6 numbers.  I also included blank labels for you to write in student's names if you are still interested in labeling with names :).


I also added two features that I think are pretty neat.  I added a student number chart in 6 different colors for you to post your student's number and I also included a black and white version for you to print on your favorite color of cardstock.


I also made the same version in a separate chalkboard version.  I love it so much I might have to rethink my polka dot decor and change to a chalkboard decor :).

    These are so cute. I have never done a class theme but the more I venture out it looks like I am in the minority. What is a dual language program?

      Polka dots cause I love all things circle and geometric. I get to teach kindergarten and I got to leave stuff up in my room for the first time ever. Which I was not able to pack it all up since I had my tonsils out just before school got out. ( I don't recommend this for adults!)

      Yikes...I haven't had my tonsils taken out yet. My dentist said I wouldn't need to but I have had lots of other teeth pulled because I have such a small mouth. I think I have had a total of 12 but some of them were baby teeth when I was in 4th grade :).

      The Dual Language program that my school has is also called 2-Way where half of the kids are native English speakers and half of the kids are native Spanish speakers. The kids have 2 teachers and in 2nd Grade their day is pretty much split in half. Half of the day they have LA in English and Math in English (that is what I'll be teaching) and the other half of the day they have LA in Spanish and SS and Science in Spanish (that is what my partner will teach.) We have 44 kids so we'll each have 21 at a time. It's a neat program and the kids do become fluent in English and Spanish both speaking, reading, and writing :). Hopefully both of my sons will be able to be in a similar program.

      Yes it is! I was in the same room for 4 years. I just finished moving today actually. My new room is bigger and has a closet but I'm going from having a bathroom in my room to not having one :(. I'll definitely miss that.

      I will have 44 kids but only 21 at a time. I will just be teaching them LA and Math (one group in the morning and the other group in the afternoon). My Spanish speaking partner teaches them LA in Spanish and Science and SS in Spanish. It seems like a lot but I'm excited to just teach two content areas :). If you follow Amy Lemon's blog she also teaches Dual Language but at another school.

      Your welcome. I thought of mixing the two in my room next year :). I wanted to do all chevron at first but I wasn't ready to chunk all of my polka dot stuff. Maybe I might have to try mixing the two :). Thanks for entering!
